P.A. Chinniah Raja Memorial Higher Secondary School (PACM HSS) was established in Rajapalayam, Virudhunagar district in 1950 by visionary industrialist and founder of Ramco Group, Shri. P.A.C. Ramasamy Raja as a part of a larger education initiative.

Features of holistic education implemented in the higher secondary school:

  • Language learning: The school has appointed teachers to help students improve their spoken English skills.

  • Digital citizens: The school has two computer labs with 100 computers for students. Teachers are to help students improve their computer skills.

  • Waste management: The management has implemented a comprehensive waste management system, “Garbology,” in collaboration with Auroville. The students are encouraged to keep the school plastic-free.

  • Extra-curriculars: The students are active participants in sports activities and have also continued to win prizes in arts, science, and cultural competitions.

  • Students – service units: The students are active members of societies like NSS, NCC, JRC, NGC, SCOUTS, and Literary clubs.

  • Atal Tinkering Laboratory: Funded by Niti Ayog, Atal Tinkering Laboratory was established in 2019 to develop the scientific temperament of students. Students are encouraged to come up with innovative science projects that are relevant to society.

The school thus encourages all-round development of students and nurtures them to be successful citizens of the country.

Growth of P.A. Chinniah Raja Memorial Higher Secondary School

The school has grown from a small initiative with ten teachers and 243 students in 1950 to its present size. Today, the school caters to 2300 students, 80 teachers, and 11 office members. Fifty-two teachers are Government-aided, and twenty-eight are Trust-appointed. The school became a Higher Secondary School in the 1978-79 academic year and now instructs children between classes VI and XII in both English and Tamil medium. The students perform consistently well in the Government Board examinations. PACM HSS celebrated its diamond jubilee in 2010.

Updates

A new computer center measuring 2550 sq. ft. was constructed for PACM Higher Secondary School. Our trust civil engineer supervised the construction. The project is focused on finding an efficient solution to upgrade the school’s existing lab, which was cramped to deal with 32 hours of usage per week.

The new computer room was constructed on the first floor above an existing exam hall to save foundation costs. The room was designed with good lighting and windows for good ventilation. The center also has structured cabling, switches for networking 60 computers, an ante-room, a server partition, and an area for instructing students.

Seven-hundred students are using the new and spacious lab. They use computers to watch educational videos and listen to audio tracks. Economically underprivileged students between the ages of 11 and 13 have benefitted from this undertaking.
