Ammani Ammal’s Girls School was founded as a Government-aided school in 1974 by our former chairman Shri P.R. Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, to encourage girls’ education in rural areas around Rajapalayam.  In 1979, the school added higher secondary classes.

The headmistress of the school, Mrs. G. Rohgini Devi, manages the day-to-day activities of the school. The secretary of the school is Mrs. R. Sudarsanam. The headmistress, in consultation with the secretary, manages the school affairs.

Features of holistic education implemented in Ammani Ammal’s Girls School:

  • Language learning: The school has appointed teachers to help students of classes VI-IX std improve their spoken English skills. Students participate in “Balavani” (Sanskrit Annual Day) every year.

  • Moral Values: Cultural and moral values are taught to students up to class VIII through the Vedic Heritage Teaching Programme.

  • Digital citizens: The school has two Computer labs with 85 computers with internet connectivity and smart-board facilities.

  • Waste management: The management has implemented a comprehensive waste management system, “Garbology,” in collaboration with Auroville. The students are encouraged to keep the school plastic-free. In addition to Garbology and kNow plastics, a new course, ‘Garbolite 101’, is conducted for all classes. The students maintain a compost yard to produce nutrient manure, which helps preserve our ecosystem.

  • Extra-curriculars: The school students are excellent sportswomen. For the past 33 years, the school has won the Best School in Athletics award.

  • Students–service units: Students-service units like R.R.C., J.R.C., and SCOUT, literary clubs, and science clubs are active.

  • Atal Tinkering Laboratory: Funded by Niti Ayog, Atal Tinkering Laboratory was established in 2021 in the school. In addition to the 12 lakhs invested by Niti Ayog, P.A.C.R. Education Charity Trust invested 14 lakhs to set up a Hi-tech ATL Laboratory and develop the spirit of innovation among students.

A school that has grown

The number of students has grown from 230 to 1700. Thirty-one students belonging to tribal communities currently study in the school. Smt. Sudarsanam Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha is the school Correspondent at present. Of the sixty-one-teaching staff, 30 are Trust-appointed. Ten non-teaching staff are also employed. The students perform very well academically and have gained recognition at the district and state levels.
