Auroville Botanical Gardens

Auroville Botanical Gardens is situated on 50 acres in the Auroville International Township. It is home to over 1,500 species of plants, and has a special interest in promoting the native plants of the Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest (TDEF). We run educational day courses for schools, women’s groups, short trainings for people wishing to learn about the native vegetation and a longer intensive course in Ecological Horticulture – the set up of which was assisted by Ramco’s CSR program for 2 years.

The gardens have a commercial wing called Botanical Services that runs landscaping and ecological restoration projects, a number of which are now in progress in various mining areas of Ramco. We also have a large native tree nursery that produces around 1,00,000 seedlings per year. Recently we have started a 3 year project to study and promote the conservation of the TDEF which has received the backing of Ramco’s CSR fund.
